Community Art and Design Projects and Commissions
Community Art and Design Projects
I’m passionate about using art to connect communities, celebrate cultural heritage, and inspire creativity for all ages. From working with local youth organisations to leading community art projects, I bring my vision and dedication to each project, making art both accessible and meaningful for everyone involved. My work with various community groups reflects my commitment to sharing the power of art and culture- and I’m always excited to partner on new projects that uplift and connect communities.
Bilton Hall Community Trust
I have had the pleasure of partnering with Bilton Hall to create many interactive art and design projects for the local community. I have worked with the home educated community on a number of art projects and my most recent commission is building two geodesic domes with the local people that will serve as greenhouses, providing a hands-on space for the community to grow and learn together.
CAST - Citizens Assembly South Tyneside
In collaboration with CAST, I brought custom stencilled art workshops to young people throughout South Tyneside in summer 2023 and summer 2024.
WAVES Additional Needs Support Group
My work with WAVES involved leading young people with additional needs in several art workshops to design their own stencilled art work, and then we put their designs onto t-shirts. It was lots of fun for all! This project was funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
South Tyneside Youth Service
Through my partnership with South Tyneside Youth Service, I led a hands-on workshop at the South Tyneside Youth Festival. We worked on a quadriptych piece – I created the background, and some of the kids stepped in freehanding their art, others used stencils and Posca markers to add their own layers and scenery. Watching them dive into the creative process, taking pride in each line and colour, was inspiring. The finished piece turned out beautifully, a vibrant mix of everyone’s contributions.
Botany Bay Project at Border Crossings
In 2022 I was selected as one of five indigenous artists in the UK to participate in a project called the Botany Bay Project. This project explored the migration histories of plants in relation to colonialism. It was such a great experience to create a series of artworks through a collaborative process. I worked with the kids at Oswald Primary School in Manchester. The convex triptych colour scheme was inspired by the children in the Garden Club. It references the movement of plant and bird life, the garden kaitiake (guardian protector of the plants and birds ) and the last piece references the use of tropical plants and wildlife not from this land, touching on the issue of global warming.
